Candy and Harley Certification
| |
This Litter is Certified clear for NCL but will be carrier for PRA. Harley is clear for PRA but sadly Candy tested Affected for PRA. Because of Candy's Affected status her litters will all be sold as Pet/Companion only! Since we will ONLY breed her to a clear dog her offspring will all be carriers, none clear and none affected. They will make fine pets and never develop the disease but we will not sell them for show or breeding. Candy's affected status means there is a strong liklihood she actually will develop the disease and ultimately go blind. Sadly this is the penalty we all pay when we acquire a dog from a breeder who does not test. It would be easier here to simply sell her offspring as pet/companion and not say why but if you can't trust us to be honest about bad news how can you trust what we say when it is good news. A puppy from this litter can be used in a breeding program by a breeder who is willing to test the resulting puppies and keep a clear puppy from that litter. Since DASHaHOUND has no control over what other breeders do we will not sell for breeding purposes, however it is always possible we will keep a puppy ouselves and breed her to clear in order to get a clear puppy for our own program. For details on what this means see DASHaHOUND GUARANTEE
This litter will be an all long hair English Cream litter. For those who do not know, Black and Cream, Shaded Cream and Light cream are all full English Cream colors. The Chinchilla gene which creates the English Cream color has no effect on black.

My name is Cabot. I am Black and Cream. I am reserved as a FREE replacement puppy for Fran Evans who lost her little boy to distemper. I have a lot to live up to, she really loved him but I will win her over.
It is hard to get the lighting righ for the black and creams. They are jet black but if I don't add light you can't see their eyes. Sorry I am not a REAL photographer. lol.

It is so much easier to get good pictures of the shaded creams. I can mess up the lighting and they still look great because of the contrast.
I am a Dappled shaded English Cream. My name is Cassi I will probably look just like my mommy Candied Dapple and she is sooo pretty. Notice how light I am now?

I am a Dappled shaded English Cream. My name is Cassi I will probably look just like my mommy Candied Dapple and she is sooo pretty. I will likely end up with just a touch of shading on my ears. Watch my ears grow over the next 2 months. I am a dapple in addition to being English Cream. I will have natural white highlights in my Blonde hair.

I am CC and I have a white star on my head. It will blend in as I turn cream but I think it means I am special. Watch, over time, how my coloring blends in and I become cream with white highlights.

Whelped October 20, 2009. What a good job Candy and Harley 4 puppies and 3 Girls and 1 Boy!!
Two of the girls are Cream Dapples, one girl and one boy are black and cream.
Candy is a great mom. She did it all, cleaned the puppies, shredder the cord and got them all nursing.
Mom with the babies. Don't try to take them away!! Note the stripe on Candy's nose. This is actually a pattern where the hair grows up instead of down. This is called a "hunter's crest".
I have seen it touted as a "feature" but it is actually a minor flaw. It is like a cowlick on a person. It is not very noticible in person but the camera catches the light and accentuates it. I don't believe it is inherited but it will be interesting to see.

This is going to be fun for all of us to watch. Remember, English Creams are born Dark Gray. The Light Patches on the two spotted girls are the dappling. The dark hairs will fall out and the cream undercoat will come through. The light areas will remain and become Blonde highlights. As an adult they are barely noticible. The end result is they will look just like mom and that is wonderful. Candied Dapple (Candy) is English Cream with Dapple highlights as these little girls will be. You could still see the dappling clearly on Candy at 8 weeks, (see below) but it gradually blends in with the cream.

Candy and Harley Litter. While this is not one of our strongest pairings by pedigree, Harley does boast International Champion Brandach's Mr. Goodbar, Canadian Champion Billie of Brandach along with several other Rose Farms and Stoneleigh Champions for a total of 17 champions in his 5 generation pedigree. Harley will be a champion in his own time. Both of these dogs were chosen for their own looks. Candy comes from a line which has never been shown. She has the right stuff and is totally beautiful. She is a rare English Cream Dapple. This litter will be sold as Pet/Companion only (see above). PEDIGREE

Shown here as 8 week puppies to give you an idea what your puppy might look like about the age you bring it home. You can learn more about either parent on their own page and also see them in action in the slide flash show.
Candy and Harley are very similar in temperament. Both fit right in with a litter of puppies their own age. Both adapted easily and were well mannered from the start. Candy was going to rule the other puppies until she got in with some older puppies. Then she held her own but could not have her way. Harley was small for his age and had to contend with many larger puppies from the beginning. Both of these pups are loving and have no bad habits.
There are no guarantees and individual puppies can vary greatly but we expect their puppies to be a mix of ACTIVE and MATURE. By MATURE I mean they will hold still to let children pet them and behave well very early. Many puppies are so active and silly they can not be much company for a year or longer. Active puppies are good for young children because they wear each other out but are harder to deal with for the first year. Even mature puppies have abundant energy and can play and fetch, etc. it is just that they will calm down and hold still. Active puppies are almost always in motion. Neither of these puppies were hyper active or lethargic as puppies. Both were (are) mild mannered, full of life but able to settle down, not silly.
We try very hard to give each owner a realistic expectation of the puppy they adopt. We do not have any mean or ill tempered dogs. We will not tolerate a trouble maker and certainly will not include it in our breeding program, no matter what the pedigree. Some bad or aggressive behavior is learned and some inherited, we try to start you with the best temperament possible to give you that head start.
