Chipper and Whiskers Litter

OK go ahead and laugh.  DASHaHOUND who does not normally line breed does a tight line breeding to father daughter.  Whiskers didn't know he wasn't supposed to climb a 3 foot fence with a top rail and breed his own daughter.   At least we know the genetics are very good and both are certified NCL and PRA clear.   Whiskers is Roberta's pride and joy.  He has 38 champions in his 5 generation pedigree with only one repeat.  That is 37 individual dogs who were all champions!!!  Some on each side of his pedigree.  In his first 6 shows Whiskers won 7 points and a 4 point major.  He is half way to his championship.  Of course Chipper is almost identical to Whiskers so you KNOW what you are getting.  We did not do a second or third pairing but we now know that she did take.   Since she did they will be exceptional puppies.  This type of  breeding is commonly done and was even more common when a breed was first created but we don't intentionally continue the practice because we feel over time it limits the gene pool and will ultimately affect health.  One single breeding is not the concern although it does leave us with a little egg on our face.

To be sure you understand, DASHaHOUND is not against line breeding, nor is a single pairing harmful, regardless of  how closely related.  It is the concept of cris crossing the same genes repeatedly which causes them to be homozygous (permanent) to be harmful.  There is an attempt to make both genes for a given characteristic the exact same (homozygous) and breeding them to another with an exact duplicate pair to create offspring with a guarantee of the same exact pair which we believe to be harmful.  It is fine for the good genes but each dog also has at least one negative health gene and that becomes homozygous also.  It takes many such cross pairings but eventually you get a kennel full of dogs who are genetically closer than siblings, all being bred back and forth.  The puppies from this litter will not have identical genes to each other or to either parent.  In fact we would expect one puppy to be smooth , this coming from two wires.   Both carry  the recessive trait for smooth hair from different mothers.  Whiskers from his mother Kracquers and Chipper from her mother Pepper, neither of which are related.  So the gene pool will still represent a lot of variation and health.

This litter boasts 65 champions in their 6 generation pedigree!!

Red Wire Female:  My name is DAISEY!!!   I AM GOING TO UPSTATE NEW YORK TO LIVE WITH JEN BASILE!!!  I am going to be a show dog (because I am so beautiful) and maybe an agility dog (because I am so FAST).  I am FAST too!!!  I will be good at agility.  I LOVE TO MOVE AND THE FASTER THE BETTER.

Dark Red Female Wire:  I am going to be a late blooming wire like my mom.  I am just starting to get my wire coat.  I have lots of wire hair between my toes, so it is coming.  I AM AVAILABLE!!  PICK ME!!!  

Light Female Smooth:   Steve and Rebecca say it is between me and that little cream girl of Ebony's now.  Sighh, soo much competition.  If you are interested in me tell Skip and he will ask Steve and Rebecca if they will release their hold on me.  Latest update, Steve says they are leaning towards ME.  Whoo hoo.  I may get to play with Star Baby again.

Dark Male Wire:   I am getting cuter by the minute.  I am frisky and like to go.  Check out my racing stripes!!  Vroom Vroom   Howard and Andrea are choosing between my sister and me.

Dark Female Wire: (Now basically the same size as sissy).   I am so darn cute, if I do say so myself.  Howard and Andrea are choosing between my brother and me.

Small Dark Female Wire:  I am an attack dog.  lol.  Don't I look tough?  Looks like I will be available.  I am a very nice girl and I like to play too.

Light Female Smooth:  Roberta wants to call me Budda becasue I have a nice round tummy and I like to hae it rubbed.  What kind of a name is that for a lady?  Steve and Rebecca say it is between me and that little Brindle boy of  Aunt Reggae's, IF he is a smooth.  I want to go play with Star Baby and they are the ones who adopted her.  

Light Male Wire.  I am Awesome, just like my dad.

Dark Male Wire:  I too am awsome but I will be darker than dad.  Tall dark and handsome, well, dark and handsome anyway, I am not supposed to be tall!!

Anybody who thinks females are gentle does NOT know that "small dark sister" of mine.  She had me on my back and was biting my tummy, I had to howl for help.  Whew, thanks Roberta!

Dark Female Wire: (only slightly larger than my sister at birth, she is catching up).  I too have Reggae's shading and those cool stripes on my forehead.

I look a lot like my sister.  Can you tell us apart?

Small Dark Female Wire:  Such a pretty girl.  Where did all that nice dark shading come from?  I know, aunt Reggae has it too.

I warned my brother, one more smart comment aoubt girls being the weaker sex and he was going to get it.  Wow can he howl!  I wasn't biting him THAT hard.

Light Female Smooth:  I am really going to look like aunt Reggae.  I am the only smooth in the bunch.  It is cool to be unique.

Light Male.  Yes I am photgenic.  Also VERY handsome.  My little white dot on the forehead  is almost gone, can you see it?  I am going to look like dad.

Dark Male.  I have this puppet dominated!  Say aren't I cute?  Wow a dark red wire with some beautiful shading.  What more could you ask for?

Dark Female.  I am actually in between my darker sister and lighter sister.  Of course I am just right. 

Small Dark Female.  Look kind of like my big brother don't I.  Only I am even prettier, after all, I am a girl.  He is ruggedly handsome.

It is like flipping a two sided coin with one side wire and one side smooth.  Flip dad's first.  50% would be W and 50% S.  So, two or 3 would be S.  Then flip mom's for those with an S from dad and 50% would get an S from mom.  ONLY those who got S from dad AND S from mom would be smooth.  So, likely one out of 4 and probably only 1 of 5.  Althogh it really is like a coin toss.  Dad or mom could come up W each time or even S each time.  It is very much random.

#1  Light red boy.  Aren't I cute?  See my little white dot on the top of my head?  I was born first but don't have my eyese open just yet.  I am going to look just like my mom and dad.

#2 Dark red boy.   I am good looking, just like my brother but deep red.  No little white dot on me.  Born second I don't have my eyes open just yet either.

#3 Light red girl.  I am pretty, like my mom and will look just like her, (maybe).  Maybe because I just MIGHT be smooth.  If so I will look like my aunt Reggae.  Of course my eyes are open early, I am a girl.

#4 Dark red girl.  As pretty as my sisters I am the dark (mysterious) girl.  Notice the white spot on my nose.  I have my eyes about 1/2 open.  I will open them the rest of the way tomorrow. 

#5 Small dark red girl.  I am the smallest and the darkest.  Notice my black shading and trim.  I am colored like my aunt Reggae but I am a wire (I think).  I may be small and the last born but I can see you.

#5 Small dark red girl.  This little girl is the darkest and the smallest.

This litter should be mostly wire coats but 1/4 of the litter could be smooth since both parents carry for smooth.  Correction: Chipper carries for black and tan but Whiskers does not so he can only produce red.  The puppies will all be red and half will carry for black and tan.  Whiskers Chipper Litter 6 generation pedigree.  Wow a whopping 65 champions (if I counted right).  PEDIGREE

Please view each parent's home page to understand what your puppy may be like.  We try very hard to give each owner a realistic expectation of the puppy they adopt.  We do not have any mean or ill tempered dogs.  We will not tolerate a trouble maker and certainly will not include it in our breeding program, no matter what the pedigree.  Some bad or aggressive behavior is learned and some inherited, we try to start you with the best temperament possible to give you that head start.
