Pepper is one of our original girls and both she and Gunny came to us from Cedar Hills Kennel.

8 Week Pictures

8 Weeks old and the final pictures in this series. We will be ready to go home in a week or ship in 2 weeks.

We didn't take their pictures staced because they were old enough, it was the only way we could get them to hold still long enough. The stacking blocks intimidate them. :-)

Patton - I am turning out to be the darkest brindle as more of Perry's black hair comes out. I am looking quite sharp. I AM A SOFT WIRE. I am such a soft cuddly little guy. Shalee Miller is my new mommy. I get to live with Popper.

I am Peepers. Surprise, I am a wire not a smooth. I have a kink in the tip of my tail. Probably I just didn't have enough room inside Pepper. She is quite small for a 5 puppy litter. Shawna is my new mommy.

I am Perry Roberta sees Brindle in me but Skip doesn't. Skip thinks I am a deep shaded red. Either way I am agood looking boy and soft wire too. AVAILABLE $550

7 Week Pictures

We are 7 weeks old.

Roberta was right about Popeye (who is surprised about that?). He is a wire. Perry and Patton are soft wires. To see what a soft wire looks like look at Wonder Dude, from Reggae's litter. This is a puppy with one gene for wire (from Gunny) and one for long hair (carried recessivley from Pepper). Their coat is very long and soft. The difference in a long hair and a soft wire is the soft wire is FLUFFY. Most people would know know then as a Dachshund at all. They are very cute and make wonderful pets. They are not showable as wire hiars need to have stiff hair but they are very cute. We are trying to get a smooth brindle female and will continue to breed Gunny to Pepper and Reggae until we get one. These cuddly soft wires are a bi-product of those breedings.

6 Week Pictures

We are 6 weeks old.

Well, it looks to me like we have 3 smooths and 2 soft wires. Roberta thinks Popeye is a wire but I think he is smooth. He looks very much like Reggae did as a puppy and she fooled us. 5 Week Pictures

We are 5weeks old. We are in the house and in the middle of all the action. This week we get to learn about a doggie door and play with the bigger puppies. Whoo hooo

It looks like we got 1 wire, 2 soft wires and 1 smooth. Statistically it is more likely Popper may turn out to be a smooth and that would give us 1 wire, 2 soft wires and 2 smooths. 4 Week Pictures

We are 4 weeks old. Whoopppee!! We get to move into the house. We have speant 4 weeks in an 80 degree whelping kennel with our adopted mommy Angelique.

The only one happier than us is Angelique. Wow has she been nursing a long time. You should see how fat our tummies are. Mmmm mmm good.

It looks like Peepers is smooth. It still looks like all the others appear, at this point, to be wire but no way to know for sure yet.

We don't normally breed for soft wires since they are not showable but they are incredibly cute pets. We are trying to get a smooth brindle female and it turns out both Pepper and Reggae carry for long hair so, 1 out of four puppies is a soft wire. We just bred reggae to Gunny again. Sooner or later we will get a smooth brindle female and we will retire Gunny. That will mean the end of soft wires. So if you want a cuddly soft little flffy Dachshund, here is your chance. See how long and soft my hair is already? I will be a cutie, just like Wonder Dude!!!

3 Weeks

We are 3 weeks old. Time to guess who is wire and who is smooth. It looks like Peepers is smooth. All the others appear, at this point, to be wire but no way to know for sure yet.

2 Week Pictures

We are 2 1/2 weeks old. Our eyes are open and we are lovin' life. I am not even going to guess who is smooth and who is wire yet.

We have our own names, starting with a P because we are Pepper's puppies, and are appearing in Alphabetical order.

Roberta says Skip has to let her name them or she won't be able to rememeber their names.

Patton - I guess I am the general!! It is so hard to show my beautiful Brindle coloring with such a lousy photographer. :-)

I am Peepers, just look at my eyes to see why. I am a wonderful shaded red. The shading will lessen as I get older but I will retain some beautiful black accents.

I am Perry and, like Perry Mason, I am very intuitive. Notice my alert posture. Of course I am also a handosme brindle.

I am Popeye, don't ask me why, I just am. Pretty lousy pictures of a pretty wonderful puppy, humph! We all are colored like by brother above, he is just the only one with a good picture.

When we were born I popped out first, so I am Popper. I look like I will be wire. What a nice bright alert little guy I am.

I am a red, like my brother Peepers, but I have less black shading. I will retain a little, just for accent.

1 Week Pictures

We are the 5 surviving Pepper/Gunny puppies.
2 are brindle, 1 is dark brindle and two are red. We are all boys. We have our own basketball team!
Rather then try to take individual pictures I took several group photos. We will sort them out individually when their eyes are open.
I have no idea who is smooth and who is wire just yet.

Adopted Mommy

You are right, this is NOT Pepper.   6 hungry puppies was more than Pepper could support. Her own health was threatened. She had to go on anti-biotics so the puppies had to come off.
Angelique to the rescue. Angie only had the one little boy Axel and had plenty of milk. What a great mommy. She took them in like her own. She cleans them and feeds them and even pushes Axel away if he gets too greedy.
It is pretty comical to see them together. He looks like a horse next to the tiny Pepper litter. Sadly we did lose one of the little red Pepper boys but it was not related to this. He could not swallow. His throat was not fully developed.

Newborn Litter

Whelped September 30, 2009. What a good job Pepper and Gunny. 6 puppies and ALL BOYS!!

At least 2 are brindle, 3 are reds, and one is dark but not known yet. Gunny must be ay,ay (red,red) for Agouti gene series. He has never produced a black and tan puppy and we know each puppy got an at (black with tan points) gene from Pepper since she is at,at. It will be many weeks before we know which are smooth hair and which are wire, although Roberta ia already making prdictions on at least one puppy being wire (fuzzy feet). We will see.
